Erik Kurvera bought a piece of Eiffel Tower for $220,00

Writing about the most unique jewelry, artworks, watches and other similar stuff that go under the hammer is not new to me. But I was a bit shaken to know that some man named Erik Kurvera actually shelled out 150,000 euros ($220,000) for a section of the Eiffel Tower’s staircase! “I’m very happy. We’ve bought a section of the Eiffel Tower,” said Erik Kurvers, the president of the Dutch basketball team, the EiffelTowers, after he acquired the 4.5 meters (15 feet) of metal at the Drouot auction house in Paris. The original staircase, which once linked the second and third stories of the 1889 Paris landmark, was dismantled in 1983 when elevators were installed and cut into 20 sections. It is this one section with sold for such a high price so you can calculate the estimate of the whole thing. Slightly battered and rusty, it stood outside the auction house over the weekend, attracting small crowds of curious passers-by. I’m sure none would have guessed that this rusted piece of iron meant so much to Dutch investor Erik Kurvera!

Kurvers said he had a clear idea of what he wanted to do with his buy, but he was giving nothing away after the sale.
