John Lennon’s handwritten ‘Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds’ lyrics up for auction

If you missed the Sotheby’s auction of John Lennon’s A Day in the Life, take heart. Yet another masterpiece from the creator of Imagine is up for auction. Come May 14 and Lennon’s handwritten lyrics of “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band is going under the hammer. Regarded as one of the best songs to have ever come from the Sgt Pepper album, the lyrics, contrary to the popular believe of having references to LSD, was inspired by his son Julian’s nursery school drawing by the same name. Auctioned by Profiles in History at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, CA, the precious sheet of musical history is estimated at $200,000 to $300,000.

Other items going under the hammer will include Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the hero filming Chitty car estimated at $1,000,000 to $2,000,000 and a historic handwritten letter from Walt Disney written in 1924 to Mickey Mouse creator Ub Iwerks.
The earnings of the auctions will be donated to the Red Cross for Japanese earthquake and tsunami victims. Can’t own any of it?
