Pair of melons auctioned for $25000

Pair of yubari melons fetched a record price of $25000 during the season’s first auction at the Sapporo City Central Wholesale Markets in Sapporo’s Chuo-ku. The brokers did expect Yubari melons would obtain a high price but didn’t expect the figure to be this high. The auctioned amount is to support Yubari, financially struggling Hokkaido city where the namesake premium melons are grown.
