Rare 1970’s Porsche racecar fetches $4 million to become most expensive Porsche sold at an auction

When I look at Porsche’s latest modern wheels, I sometimes wonder if the old vintage Porsche still manages to attract fans and collectors. The recent Bonhams sale has made me realize that yes when it comes to rare Porsche’s, the demand is as high as any modern Porsche. A rare 1970s Porsche racecar fetched a whopping $4 million at Bonhams sale in Monterey, setting a new world record for the most expensive Porsche ever sold at auction. The ex-Jurgen Neuhaus/Jurgen Barth 1972-73 European Interserie and David Hobbs/Mike Hailwood Gulf-JW Automotive team 1972-73 Porsche 917 Interserie Spyder, née 1970 Gulf-JWA Le Mans 917K Coupe was definitely the star of this sale. Seeing the enormous amount this car has fetched, I realize the appeal that rare vintage cars still have over true collectors.
