If the harsh winds, chilly temperature and layers of heavy moisturizer has left your skin all washed out and pallid, it’s time to wash away winter skin woes and greet the new season with a rosy flush sunny glow. Dr. Craig Kraffert, dermatologist and president of the Korean skin brand, Amarte tells Luxurylaunches five steps to slough off dead winter skin for an easy new season makeover.
With the onset of Spring, Amarte has also introduced products ideal for transitioning skin care regimen from winter to warm weather. The lineup features whipped-to-perfection cleansing foam, a light and silky retinol cream and a smooth, incredibly blendable BB Cream with broad spectrum SPF 36 protection.
5. Four-pointer rule
It’s a simple rule that many of us break. Dirt and makeup throughout the day block your pores and can lead to congestion and breakouts. While it’s important to wash away the grime and the makeup especially when you sleep at night, Dr. Kraffert says following a unique, multi-faceted regimen focused on four steps-cleanse, hydrate, rejuvenate and protect can bring out the clarity, beauty and brilliance of skin. “Utilizing a complete, scientific and harmonious skin care system can deliver visible results and optimal skin care benefits,” said Dr. Kraffert. Amarte Daily Wonder Cleansing Foam is available for $40.
Washing your face with soap or cleansers does not remove pore-clogging dirt and oil. While gloves and loofahs are one option for exfoliation, they should only be used on the body as its too harsh for the facial skin. “Cleansing and exfoliating daily can improve skin health, but it’s important to use products that are gentle and compatible with the skin,” said Dr. Kraffert.
“It’s a common misconception that scrubbing one’s face with a washcloth or using aggressive exfoliants are shortcuts to smooth skin, but the truth is these harsh treatments may lead to irritation, increased oil production and even spots called PIH (post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation). By increasing oil production such treatments have the potential to worsen acne.” “For example, apricot pit scrubs have been popular for years, but in many cases they can be counterproductive. Apricot scrubs can cause significant skin irritation and regular use is associated with development of small cysts called Milia, which crop up near skin’s surface.”
Dr. Kraffert recommends using gentle, smoother exfoliant cleansers such as Amarte Daily ExfoliPowder and rinse skin clean with warm water before gently patting excess away with a cloth.
3. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
We can’t probably emphasize enough how important it is to moisturize your skin. Your skin needs moisturizer even during hot, humid summers. However, you must switch to a lighter moisturizer during summertime that doesn’t add excess oil and feels fresh and light. “Look for light, water based products like the new Amarte Aqua Lotion, which smoothes and brightens dehydrated skin without leaving a “topical cloud” on skin like heavier, more emollient-rich creams can. Moisturizer can be used alone or layered under makeup primer to prep skin for a longer-lasting makeup application,” said Dr. Kraffert. Amarte HydroLife Cream is priced at $65.
2. Repair, replenish and restore
Uneven pigmentation, age spots, acne scars, sagging skin, redness, fine lines and wrinkles are some of the evidences of damaged skin. While some damages to the skin are due to excessive exposure to the sun, others are age related. We asked Dr. Kraffert if it was possible to restore and repair damaged skin without an in-office procedure to which he said sunscreen is an important weapon in preventing premature skin aging. “Retinoids are perhaps the most well-known and widely effective option for restoring and repairing damaged skin at home. Retinoid products such as those containing nano-encapsulated and stabilized retinol stimulate the skin to make collagen and improve skin tone, texture and pigmentary uniformity. After over forty years of research and clinical study, there is an increasingly solid body of evidence that retinol regulates skin function in a positive way. There is no scientific evidence of skin damage by long-term use of retinol. It is never too early to incorporate retinol into an anti-aging regimen.”
“Retinoids perform best when included within a daily lifestyle and skin care regimen that also emphasizes daily use of broad spectrum sunscreen as well as complete avoidance of cigarettes and passive smoking. Inclusion of antioxidant skin care products within one’s daily skin care regimen is also important.”
If you want to cover up blemishes or spots, but want to avoid layers of concealer and foundations, then try tinted moisturizer. BB cream combining the benefits of a face cream with foundation will help you even out your skin tone without caking or streaks. “True Korean BB cream, such as Amarte Natural Finish BB Cream (priced at $55), is a sheer, finely pigmented beauty balm that provides uniform coverage without caking or flaking, allowing your own true beauty to shine through. Designed with SPF 36 for daily sun protection, this multi-tasking face tint also softens and smoothes skin for a glowing, natural look. Amarte Natural Finish BB Cream offers two versatile shades, Light and Natural,” said Dr. Kraffert.
