The latest district to join Dubai’s bandwagon of glamour, glitz and extraordinaire, the recently-opened Dubai Design District (d3) has inked a deal with Fosters + Partners to help create a ‘destination for all things design, fashion, art and luxury’. The creative community will be modeled on New York’s Meatpackaging District and London’s Shoreditch and aimed at nurturing the emirate’s emerging local talent – artists and designers as well as a center for established studios and galleries.
The first section of the district’s master plan was opened officially last month where 220 businesses including well-known brands and studios signed up. Hugo Boss, La Perla, Viktor Udzenija, Wanders Wagner Architects to name a few. Fosters + Partners joins as part of the second section to create a mix of offices and working facilities around a series of pedestrians and open spaces, like its counterparts in New York and London.
The project is scheduled to complete in 2017 and help pave way for d3 to be one of the most important design centers in the world, an ambition that is synonymous with everything Dubai.
