Widespread reports claim that Welsh football star, Gareth Bale has set a new world record by becoming the most expensive football player in history. His transfer from Spur to Real Madrid was finally confirmed on Sunday, earning him a transfer fee of £85.3 million ($132.7 million), as compared to former record holder – Cristino Ronaldo’s £80 million ($108 million). As we speak, the transfer is being made official by Madrid at Bernabeu, by presenting Gareth to the media and the club’s fans, after he undergoes a medical.
Visibly excited with the new shift of events, Gareth expressed that this is a dream come true. However, being the perfect gentleman he also paid homage to his former teams – “I am well aware that I would not be at the level I am today, were it not for firstly, Southampton and then, Spurs standing by me during some of the tougher times and affording me the environment and support they have.” Last season, for Bales, has been glorious – scoring 26 goals and being labeled the ‘Player of the Year’ by both the Professional Footballers’ Association and Football Writers’. So this is what the ruckus is all about I suppose!
