Superstar singer Katy Perry is thrilled about her upcoming trip to space with Lauren Sánchez and four other accomplished women. Her excitement was evident during her recent appearance at the Breakthrough Awards in Santa Monica on Sunday. The 40-year-old looked part star, part spaceship herself as she embraced a futuristic avatar that hinted she was already in the mood for the historic voyage.

While she looked ahead to the future, her glam paid homage to the past with a vintage 1920s gel-curl hairstyle paired with minimal makeup, perfect for the red carpet at what’s dubbed the Oscars of Science.

Perry will join helicopter pilot Lauren Sánchez, journalist Gayle King, aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, bioastronautics scientist Amanda Nguyen, and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn on a history-making mission, the first of its kind, all-female spaceflight. Katy has clearly manifested this extraordinary opportunity. She has dreamed of traveling to space for over two decades.

Speaking to ELLE, she said, “I was investigating all of the possible commercial options. Even when Blue Origin was first talking about commercial travel to space, I was like, ‘Sign me up! I’m first in line.’ And then they called me, and I was like, ‘Really? I get an invite?’ And then they told me about it being the first all-female crew.” The Roar singer will finally get a chance to roar in space aboard Blue Origin’s 11th crewed flight from West Texas, reaching an altitude of 65 miles. The life-changing, 11-minute suborbital journey will see the pioneering women cross the Kármán line, the boundary between Earth’s atmosphere and outer space.

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom are friends with the former news anchor and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and joined them aboard the $500 million Koru for a summer escape to Croatia in August 2023. After strolling the picturesque, limestone-paved streets of the historic walled city, the couple returned the following year to the 416-foot Oceanco beauty to indulge in adrenaline-pumping adventures. The singer even shared a video of herself plunging into the Mediterranean Sea from Sánchez’s helicopter on Instagram.

Now, it’s time for the gal pals to shift their focus from sea to space, and they certainly look excited! That same evening, Lauren Sánchez channeled vintage haute couture, accessorizing with a dazzling Judith Leiber astronaut clutch, a fitting tribute to the much-anticipated space mission ahead.
