You may know Leonardo DiCaprio for his sensational yacht parties and penchant for space adventure however the established actor is also a noted environmentalist. The star recently threw a gala at the French Riviera to benefit his eponymous foundation and chose the occasion to discuss animal rights and the need to act against animal slaughter and protect biodiversity.
The event included an auction where some pretty sweet goods were up for grabs including a Harley Davidson signed by DiCaprio, Martin Scorcese and Robert DiNiro which sold for more than $673,000, a sculpture by Damien Hirst which was snapped up by billionaire Len Blavatnik for over $6 million and two walk on roles in a future DiCaprio movie which were sold for a total of $2.4 million. The event was boasted an impressive guest list with stars like Selena Gomez, Joan Collins, Petra Nemcova, Cara Delevingne, Jared Leto, Marion Cotillard, Robin Thicke and Bono in attendance. In fact Bono also auctioned off a personal guitar for $1 million.
This is hardly the first time DiCaprio has displayed an interest in environmental awareness. The actor is known to live a green lifestyle and was famously involved in the movie The Eleventh Hour. Having raised $25 million in donations and worked extensively to create awareness, here’s hoping more actors will follow in Leo’s eco-friendly footsteps.
