Audi A3 Cabriolet Launched in India; Priced at Rs. 44.75 Lakh

Audi India has finally rolled out the long-awaited A3 Cabriolet in India at Rs. 44.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). We were present at the launch event that took place yesterday in New Delhi where Audi India Head Mr. Joe King officially unveiled the car. The drop top was earlier showcased at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo; and at this price, the convertible A3 has become one of the most affordable cabriolets in India. Available with just a petrol engine that has been inherited from its sedan counterpart, the A3 Cabriolet comes to India via the CBU route. The 1.8-litre TFSI petrol unit is good for 177bhp and 280Nm and the power is transmitted to the front-wheels through a seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The Cabriolet features an automatic fabric soft top that can be operated electro-hydraulically in 18 seconds, while running at speeds up to 50Km/h.

The two-door car looks slightly sportier than the hard top A3 sedan, but except for the two-missing doors, new design for the alloy wheels and the fabric roof, it shares most of the components with the later including the interiors as well. In terms of competition, at present, there are only a few convertibles in our country and the Audi A3 will be competing against the likes of Porsche Boxter and Mini Cooper. Audi is also planning to bring in the hatchback model of the A3 in India sometime in the first half of 2015.
