India’s royal train, Palace on Wheels, started the year’s first luxurious journey last week. Palace on Wheels chugged out of Safdarjung station here on its first journey of the season carrying 34 passengers.
This year, the ‘Palace on Wheels’ plans to make a total of 34 trips from September 2013 to April 2014 and 3000 passengers are expected to travel in the train. The train with all modern facilities will travel to Jaipur, Sawaimadhopur, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bharatpur and Agra before returning to the capital. A joint venture of Indian Railways and Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC), the train has 23 coaches comprising 14 saloons, one spa coach, two restaurants–“Maharaja” and “Maharani”, and one reception-cum-bar. There are 52 rooms with single, double, and triple occupancies. The seven-day journey takes the tourists across mountains, rivers, forests, and sand dunes in air-conditioned comfort. Moreover, the luxurious train has been recently refurbished for this year’s run.
The ‘Palace on Wheels’ is rated amongst the top 10 luxury trains in the world, and attracts tourists that want to explore the real luxury.
