After facing severe backlash from fans Kim Kardashian renames her shapewear brand

Back in June, Kim Kardashian had unveiled her first-ever shapewear brand that she had lovingly christened as ‘Kimono’. However, in no time of its release, the name received major backlash on the internet with many stating that it disrespected the Japanese culture. So much so, that the mayor of Kyoto also wrote an open letter to the diva, stating that “kimono” shouldn’t be “monopolized.” In taking the concerns seriously, Kim has now decided to rename the label by calling it – Skims Shapewer.

In announcing her decision to the world, Kardashian twitted an official statement that read – “My fans and followers are a huge inspiration to me,” “I’m always listening to their feedback and opinions and am so grateful they shared their ideas for a new brand name. After much thought and consideration, I’m excited to announce the launch of SKIMS Solutionwear.”

The name is apparently inspired by one of her fan- Mélyssa Rodrigues (@yeekylizzle) suggestions. Commenting on this, Rodrigues in a statement said, “I truly believe it was my tweet that caught her attention since I didn’t see anyone with the same idea before me or with more likes or retweets than me plus, I gave all the explanations behind this name and what inspired me”. However, she further clarified, “Neither did Kim or someone from her team contacted me about my suggestion though, so I’m still not sure.” Whatever be the source, we’re sure the brand (with its name change) is now skimming through success!
