When you’re a brand name like Alexander Wang, you never go out of style. And to celebrate 10 years of creating fashion waves, the designer called upon his fans to choose their favorite looks that the brand has released throughout the years. These popular 10 or the “Wang 10” capsule – voted for on social media— have been revealed and re-released on the label’s site and are currently available for pre-order.
The designer made his debut after two years at Parsons at the tender age of 21 and have risen to the top of the fashion world, behind one of America’s most recognized brands—and for nearly three years as the creative director of Balenciaga. “It has gone by so fast and I’ve experienced and learned so much that I would have never imagined,” Wang tells us. “I remember the first season when I had to show buyers my first six sweaters in my apartment before knowing what a line sheet was. It’s hard to pinpoint specific moments as it has been an amazing journey. I think winning the CFDA was one of the most special moments, as well as opening our first store in Soho—but on a purely fun level, all the after-parties are definitely highlights for me.”
As for his Anniversary collection, his spring 2009 collection turned out to be the top choice among fans, with four of the 10 re-released pieces coming from that year, but Wang has ditched the original bright colors and have done them all in black. The top favorite look was the fur-sleeved moto jacket ($2,995) and the semi-sheer bra cup dress ($ 820), while others designs include Spring 2009’s mesh dress with graphic embellishment ($955), Fall 2008’s stretch leather pants ($1,295), the athletic-inspired leather shorts ($850) from the football-themed spring 2010 runway and more from the high-volume fall 2011 show.
This year will also mark the designer’s final year with Balenciaga, where he will present his last show at the Paris Fashion Week. Wang will also present the Alexander Wang spring 2016 collection at his preferred venue, Pier 94, during New York Fashion Week.
