Barneys New York makes the most of the New York chills with its ‘Chillin’ Out’ holiday windows

Holiday display windows are definitely turning into a New York winter tradition. This year, as New Yorkers get ready for the biting cold temperatures, Barneys New York brought the big chill early with the big reveal of their Madison Avenue windows – with the theme of “Chillin’ Out.”

Embracing the chill that comes at time of the year, Barney’s has brought a crucial element of the outdoors inside – Ice. Two display windows, featuring Ice Castles – created using 500 gallosns of water and Ice Carvers, have been created within a 35-foot ice locker that is kept at minus 2 degrees, a first for Barneys. The ice carvers will perform daily in the next few weeks.

Two other windows will take inspiration from ice, the first features a larger-than-life blown glass installation called “Winter Brilliance” by artist Dale Chihuly. With more than 700 hand-blown glass elements, the piece represents frigid winters and takes the form of a grand crystalline explosion set above a reflecting pool. The second installation called “Artic Chase” (partnered with Lexus) was created from the classic childhood “Penguin Chase” and features three crystal-encrusted penguins atop 3D-printed scale models of Lexus IS, GS F, and RC F cars, racing around a translucent track through an icy mountainscape.
