Luxury brands have been selling us frivolous knick-knacks for a while now at exorbitant prices (we’re looking at you Hermès) but Fendi’s latest might just take the cake. Reportedly the brand will launch a collection of individually sold bag straps in November with each one priced at a whopping $1,000. For the sake of comparison, you should probably note that Gucci’s Interlocking Shoulder bag is priced at about $2,100 and that is a strap with an actual bag attached.
Titled Strap You, the collection will feature nine different strap styles ranging from classic leather to exotic skins and studded variants. The straps will be two toned and customers can choose whether they prefer gold or silver hardware. You can have the strap monogrammed too.
As ludicrous as the prospect is to some of us, we’re sure that there are few Fendi fans out there who are anxiously anticipating this new accessory collection (isn’t buying a designer strap for your handbag a bit like accessorizing your accessories?). For us, this begs the question: Have we been paying $1,000 for handbag straps all this time? Next time can we get a discount if we forego the shoulder strap?
