Gucci has turned 100, and is celebrating its centenary by partnering with Balenciaga for the uber-exclusive Aria collection

In what could be the most sensational collaboration of the season, we have fashion brands – Gucci and Balenciaga join forces for an exclusive, one-of-its-kind collection. The association also marks Gucci’s 100th year of existence which calls for a fashion extravaganza like no other!

Bringing in the occasion is “Aria,” a co-ed collection and runway show in association with Balenciaga. It includes oversized jackets, suits (such as the red velvet suit from Gucci FW ’96 and the tip-to-toe Gucci shell suit), and other awe-inspiring pieces containing a mash-up of logos, monograms, and silhouettes.

Commenting on it, Alessandro Michele said the following: “On this occasion, I want to honor my filial affection betraying the legacy handed down to me. Because the promise of a never-ending birth is only renewed through an evolving capacity…I have celebrated the equestrian world of Gucci, transfiguring it into a fetish cosmogony; I have sublimated Marilyn Monroe’s silhouette and old Hollywood’s glamour; I sabotaged the discreet charm of the bourgeoisie and the codes of men’s tailoring.”

The collection is supplemented by a 15-minute film that pays an ode to the brand’s history and its worthy founder Guccio Gucci. Complete with loads of retro-cool ready-to-wear, branded bags, hats, shoes, and jewelry, the Gucci X Balenciaga ‘Aria’ collection could be one of the coolest collaborations in a long, long time!
