Persol Release Their ‘For the Sun. Not Only’ Campaign with Sophistication

As a luxury eyewear brand, Persol are up there with iconic names like Ray-Ban, Oakley, Prada and Ralph Lauren. So, it was no surprise when Persol launched their 2019 eyewear collection with more than a massive dose of sophistication. The Persol brand name itself is derived from per il sole, which translates from Italian to mean “for the sun” in English, which is clearly quite fitting considering that that’s exactly what you use your Persol sunglasses for – to protect your eyes from the sun.

Now, with their new 2019 campaign, Persol are taking their history of clever wordplay by naming their new campaign “For the Sun. Not Only”. Which is not only a nod to their luxury brand name, but is a clever play to show that, these days, people not only use their sunglasses as a way to protect their eyes, but also as a stylish accessory to any outfit.

The Persol nod to history doesn’t just end with their name for this campaign, though. This iconic sunglasses brand is also bringing back some of their most popular styles and frames from the past. Which will allow those of us who adore a dose of vintage, to add a new pair of Persols to our closets.

One of the most iconic of these historical frames is the PO3225S style, which you might recognise from 80s mega-movie Cocktail. Here the ever-popular Tom Cruise wore these show-stopping frames as he made his fame for being a lady’s man with all the moves. Just imagine, you can dawn your old-school Persol frames and take up the role of cocktail maker at all your summer BBQ parties.

If the 80s frames aren’t quite for you, the Persol 649 model has also had a revamp. A best-seller of their time, these frames were originally designed in 1957 for those who drove trams in Turin. However, the frame design only reached the height of its popularity after being worn by Marcello Mastroianni in a classic movie called Divorce, Italian Style.

For their revamp, the Persol 649 frames now have polar lenses – which are available in multiple colours as well as double-layer acetate.

That’s not all, though. Along with sunglass styles from the past, Persol have also been busy in their workshop and have created a host of new frames for this summer too. So, if you if you think the past should stay in the past, there’s still lots of stylish options to choose from.

In particular, the new PO3219V style is absolutely stunning with its 1930’s vibes. Stylish and durable, these frames benefit from the ever-popular oval design, which is at the height of fashion at the moment.

The launch party itself was an incredibly intimate dinner held at the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York. Due to the intimacy, only the best in A-list celebrities were lucky enough to catch a look at the latest Persol designs in person. This guest list included: Hailey Gates, Leyna Bloom, Gabriel Kane Day-Lewis, Sean O’Pry and Jeremy McCain.
