Style savvy coffee connoisseurs have a reason to rejoice! Starbucks is joining hands with Scott Sternberg to create two exclusive ceramic coffee mugs that will offer a new take on classic Starbucks carriers. Sternberg’s clothing label Band of Outsiders has been associated with a rebellious take on all American style and these cups certainly reflect the brand’s edgy-cool aesthetic.
Inspiration came from Sternberg’s slang word for coffee: “drip.” The 12 oz. ceramic mugs feature the signature Starbucks’ logo on the side while their rim is graffitied with dripping paint in black and multicolor variations. Each mug will retail for $14.95 and will be made available in the U.S.A. and in Canada.
Speaking on the origins of the collaboration, Sternberg said, “You get these phone calls from Steven (Steven Kolb, chief executive officer of the Council of Fashion Designers of America) a couple of times a year and he usually prefaces it ‘You’re going to say no,’ but I sort of surprised him and instinctually and immediately jumped on it.” He also confessed that the black and white mug was his favorite and that his Starbucks drinks of choice are iced Venti Red Eyes and Venti Green Tea.
Starbucks seems serious about making its coffee fashion conscious. This tie-up will mark their fifth collaboration with a fashion designer. Designers like Jonathan Adler, Rodarte, Charlotte Ronson and Stacey Bendet of Alice + Olivia have formerly worked with Starbucks.
