The Pirelli calendar has always been a source of great intrigue thanks to its exclusivity. Featuring the world’s most famous supermodels in provocative shoots with legendary photographers like Karl Lagerfeld, Terry Richardson, Bruce Weber and Mario Sorrenti behind the camera, the Pirelli calendar is definitely on par with ultra-chic fashion magazines like Vogue. And while the world has been treated to a few behind-the-the scenes exclusives and leaked images, only VIPs and important clients have ever managed to score a Pirelli calendar for themselves. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the coveted calendar, Taschen has published a retrospective volume reproducing the complete calendars.
Along with the famous calendar images, the book will also feature rare and never-before-seen images and censored images that were too risqué for the editors of the time. The unpublished 1963 calendar will also be a part of the book. An introduction by Philippe Daverio and an interview with art directors Derek Forsyth and Martyn Walsh will provide more insights into the glamorous world of this iconic calendar.
The book is priced at around $70 and is available for pre-order now. It is expected to ship to the U.S. in August. A limited print collector’s edition of the book has already sold out despite it’s $2,000 price tag.
