Cheered on by her husband and children seated in the front row, Spice Girl turned fashion maven Victoria Beckham debuted her Autumn/Winter 2015 Collection at New York Fashion Week. With this collection Beckham made a return to the iconic cocktail dresses that made her name a red carpet staple. While her past few collection have explored unchartered territory including masculine shapes, minimalism and the loose silhouettes, her adventurousness has not always paid off, with her work often being compared to other designers. Fall 2015 was all about reclaiming femininity but in a decidedly refined way.
Brimming with autumnal shades like navy, grey, taupe and black, the collection revisited classic cocktail dresses, calf skimming skirts and culottes and voluminous sweaters. Cashmere, thick knits and tweed tempered each other, revealing only the barest hint of skin though the occasional cutout. Punctuated by standout pieces like an orange coat dress and a lavishly appliquéd skirt, every look as true to the VB brand and would not look out of place on the designer herself. Beckham’s clothing has certainly returned to its sexy roots, this time with the added benefit of rich textures and wearable shapes.
Though this collection was all about the dress, Victoria is also building a stellar reputation for her stunning outwear. If we could own one thing from this collection, it would have to be the eye popping orange coat which probably does double duty as a dress. We also loved the calf length boots in camel and black that represent Victoria’s second time designing footwear.
We’re glad that Beckham is going back to basics. The collection is already being called one of her best and when Victoria brings sexy back, you can be sure that the world is taking notice.
