Well known for his career as a chart topping solo artist as well as a member of the popular hip hop band The Black Eyed Peas, Will.I.Am has also attracted attention thanks to his unique sense of style. He is now making one aspect of his personal style available to the masses through an eyewear collection titled ill.i Optics. The range will include both sunglasses and frames suited for prescription (or plain) lenses. Created in collaboration with George Gorrow, the collection references the eye wear popularized by 80s hip hop artists and the oversized glasses worn by graffiti characters of that decade. The collection also draws inspiration from rare and vintage glasses found by Will.I.Am and George on their experiences around the world. Each pair is created to stand out and pay homage to the past while paving the way for the future. Prices begin at around $290 for sunglasses and $275 for optical glasses.
The collection is hardly a surprise, building as it does on Will.I.Am and Gorrow’s 14 year friendship. Gorrow may be well known as the co-founder of cult Aussie brand Ksubi, but his experimental style of eyewear has gained him a dedicated fan base including celebrities and models. Will.I.Am has caught our eye in the past for dropping big bucks to customize a classic car as well as for having a music video filmed at the Louvre. We definitely see this collaboration as a match made in design heaven.
