Audi has come up with a unique new way to enable customers to virtually customize their cars. The German automaker will now have customers use VR headsets to customize any of the brand’s 52 models. With this technology, customers will be able to customize an Audi’s color, mix and match different packages to see how they change the look of the car and ultimately, walk around the vehicle to see the customizations come to life, virtually! The technology was shown off by Audi at the CES event in Las Vegas recently and makes use of the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift VR headsets.
Given the fact that VR technology today is seamless, this development by Audi is indeed a stunning experience. The VR demo will also allow customers to virtually open a car’s doors and peek at the engine compartment. Given the fact that the car is virtual, users can also look right inside the engine! This certainly isn’t the first time a business has made use of VR technology cleverly to lure customers. Previously, we came across Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts’ virtual reality system that enabled guests to virtually experience hotels and destinations. We’d like to see how Audi’s competitors match up to this immersive buying experience.
