Cat loving designer Karl Largerfeld has been spotted wearing a custom gold Apple watch on Instagram. Earlier this week the designer’s bodyguard/assistant/model companion (this combination could only exist in the world of Karl Largerfeld) Sebastien Jondeau posted a picture of Largerfeld’s Apple clad wrist along with the caption: 1st apple watch specially made for KarL !! Amazing !!! Thanks #apple !!!!!! @karllagerfeld.
Apple’s luxe watch has also been spotted on celebrities like Katy Perry, Christy Turlington, Pharrell and Drake, so it’s hardly a fluke that we’re seeing the designer sporting this covetable gadget. But the interesting part is that while others have been wearing the $17,000 gold edition Apple Watch with the Modern Buckle strap, Largerfeld’s appears to be a golden take on the Link Bracelet that is available only in Silver and Space Gray stainless steel.
Considering that the use of gold in the design already results in a significant price hike (according to MacRumors, the gold used in the Modern Buckle band alone raises the price of the Apple Watch Edition from $10,000 -with Sport band- to $17,000) it is unlikely that Apple will ever mass produce a pure gold Link Bracelet. Macrumors estimates the price of Largerfeld’s one-of-a-kind watch to be above $25,000.
The Apple Watch is slated to launch on April 24th.
