Fashion tech is certainly the OTM accessory these days! While Google pulls in fashion heavyweights like DVF to upgrade their product Google Glass, Intel is also stepping up their game by introducing MICA (My Intelligent Communication Accessory) a smart bracelet created in partnership with Opening Ceremony. In a bid to make MICA more appealing, the creators have focused on the design aspect with Ayse Ildeniz, vice president of Intel’s New Devices Group stating in an interview with Business Insider that “The bracelet is designed as an accessory first and tech product second.”
MICA’s discreet 1.6 inch touchscreen coated with scratch resistant sapphire faces the inside of your wrist rather than the outside. It boasts 3G radio which means it can display your emails, text messages, and various social media feeds without being tethered to a smartphone. We can easily see this piece of high-fashion tech becoming popular with bloggers, fashion writers and editors. It’s bound to become an Instagram staple in those “Arm Party” stacked bracelet shots.
On the aesthetic front, the bracelet has a bright future. So far we’ve been promised two avatars: a black watersnake skin base with pearls from China and a lapis stone from Madagascar and another with a white watersnake skin base embellished with tiger’s eye stones from South Africa and obsidian from Russia. While a price hasn’t been finalized, word on the street is that it will retail at Barney’s and Opening Ceremony stores for under $1,000.
