Leica unveiled yesterday a special edition camera – Leica D-Lux 6, in collaboration with Dutch-based clothing label G-Star Raw. The partnership has broken no grounds as such but ensures style and performance excellence. The outstanding factor in the camera is its avatar in special edition leather trim, which is unique and ensures a firm grip. Moreover, it features accessories exclusive to the camera which cannot be purchased individually. These include G-Star Raw branded and styled brown leather case, accompanied by matching shoulder and wrist straps.
Facts suggest that the special edition camera by Leica draws inspiration from the clothing brand’s fashion collection, giving the camera a distinct and stylized look and feel. However so, we find the Leica D-Lux 5 Titanium more attractive in terms of looks so also its features, which is almost the same as the Leica D-Lux 6 ‘Edition by G-Star RAW.’
The new camera, like its counterpart, sports a fast lens with a 1.7″ CMOS image sensor allowing a zoom range of 24 to 90 mm (35mm equivalent) and thus assuring stunning image quality, be it macro shots wide-angle architectural and landscape photography to photojournalism and portraits. The principal features of the D-Lux 6 include an automatic mode, manual settings, and full-HD video, providing its users with the ultimate creative freedom.
The Leica D-Lux 6 ‘Edition by G-Star RAW’ set is available now in the UK from authorized Leica dealers, including the Leica Store Mayfair. The Leica D-Lux 6 ‘Edition suggested retail price by G-Star RAW’ set is £850 (approx. $1,300) inclusive of VAT, which we find a little overpriced.
