A new restaurant in the US is gearing up to open its doors to the public. It is the largest in the country to be built using 19 shipping containers. The Smoky Park Supper Club in North Carolina, is built by a construction firm called SG Blocks. This restaurant will feature a wood fired food menu by Ashville farm to table pioneer Mark Rosenstein. The taste of food lovingly prepared on a wood fire is something else.
The restaurant is on a 1.8 acre plot of land, by the French Broad River. Its patrons can visit the restaurant by car, foot, bike or boat. The site required a thorough clean up before the work on the restaurant began.
Reusing the shipping containers instead of melting them down helps to conserve energy, they just need to be stripped of any exterior coatings and then a fresh coat needs to be applied before installation. The 19 containers for the Smoky Park Supper club took three days to install. Work started on it in 2011 and was completed in May 2014, with the interiors all completed the restaurant is all set to welcome its customers.
