Gastronomy à Cannes: S. Pellegrino to open a floating restaurant from May 14-19 in honor of Festival de Cannes

Hello all. Today’s a very special day. No, I’m not narcissistic enough to sneak in my birthday announcement in an editorial (I am plenty narcissistic still). Today, if you asked me what date it is, I’d say, it is two days till May 15, when Cannes Film Festival gets an impossibly ingenious pop up restaurant.

The fancy folks at S. Pellegrino obviously got the memo when we wrote about Sunborn. But while that may have been a floating hotel, the sparkling mineral water giant is deploying motorboats for a floating restaurant. And that wasn’t even the best part. Over four days, the Trattoria al Mare S.Pellegrino will allow 400 guests to enjoy an exceptional menu prepared by Italian chef Marco Stabile and French chef Alain Llorca, at absolutely no cost.

To be anchored in the Bay of Cannes, the fleet of seven motorboats is inviting festivalgoers to reserve a table by calling a confidential phone number. So you’d have to be an epicure and a Sherlock to spot the secret number, which will be posted only in certain strategic locations along the Croisette starting tomorrow. Each boat can accommodate four to six diners at a time. Is all that’s left for us to say at this point. It’s hard not to be left speechless by what could be called, only the best way to honor Festival de Cannes.
