Whiskey connoisseurs hold your breaths! Diageo Global Travel has recently announced plans to launch the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Glenury Royal in October. The limited-edition batch will be the third in a series of special editions that are crafted using rare and “ghost” whiskeys from the reserves used to create Johnnie Walker Blue Label.
The special edition will feature the Highland single malt from the Glenury Royal Distillery, along with two special blends from the “ghost” distilleries of Cambus and Pittyvaich specially selected by Johnnie Walker Master Blender Jim Beveridge and his team. The ensemble will also include five other names from Glen Elgin, Inchgower, Glenlossie, Cameronbridge and Glenkinchie which will bring along notes of vanilla, heather honey, dried fruits, dark chocolate and nuts. The Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Glenury Royal whiskies are bottled at an ABV of 43.8% and each numbered individually.
Commenting on the collection, Diageo Global Travel’s Marketing and Innovation Director Anna MacDonald in a statement said: “With the introduction of Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Glenury Royal, globe-trotting single malt fans will have a fleeting opportunity to take home a rare and indulgent Scotch that explores the depth of character of whiskies from now-silent distilleries. She further added, “Retailers will have the opportunity to hero this limited-edition Scotch with bespoke in-store activations including illuminated glorifiers and FSDUs, and to tell its rich story through dynamic wall bay takeovers.” The whiskies will be available globally from October 2019 at an RRP of £275 (US$345).
