If, like us, you’re guilty of spending your hard earned cash on craft cocktails at your favorite hangout then this story is right up your alley. Cocktails can be an expensive purchase, sometimes you’ll even regret your order after the first sip, but thanks to Virtual Cocktails, cocktail remorse can be a thing of the past.
Nimesha Ranasinghe and his team at the National University of Singapore, have created a cocktail glass that can change the taste of the drink it contains using a mobile app. The glass is part of a device that uses electronics to alter the color, taste and smell of the drink. First, LED lights in the glass can change the color of the drink. Second, tongue-stimulating electrodes placed around the rim can make the drink seem more sweet, salty or bitter to the drinker. Lastly, a tube located on the glass messes with your mind by releasing different scents (e.g. lime) which also affect the way you perceive taste.
A product like this could help you satisfy your need for sugary drinks without ever picking up a can of soda. Imagine tricking your mind into thinking you’re having a glass of Chardonnay at the end of the day, when all you are drinking is water! Now this is a virtual reality experience we can definitely get on board with!
