Spain’s El Celler de Can Roca replaces Noma as the world’s best restaurant

Noma has been devouring the tag of being No.1 in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list for past three years in a row now. But unfortunately, this year El Celler de Can Roca, the Spanish family establishment run by three brothers, which was close behind Noma all these years, has been voted as the No. 1, with Noma following! What has brought El Celler – ‘The Roca Brothers’ establishment to the apex, is their “global acclaim for its combination of Catalan dishes with cutting-edge techniques and the passion that they share for hospitality,” shared the award organizers in an email sent to Guildhall, London, announcing the winners. El Celler de Can Roca is based in Girona, Spain. Chef Massimo Bottura’s Osteria Francescana rises to the third position, Mugaritz, in San Sebastian, Spain, fourth while Eleven Madison Park, New York jumps to the fifth.

Commemorating and celebrating their magnificent victory, the brothers hosted a breakfast at the Mandarin Oriental to announce a culinary opera by the name – El Somni, created in alliance with artist Franc Aleu, along with other musicians, painters, dancers, and artists. The opera would feature 12 acts, during which 12 diners would be served 12 courses. The opera would debut in Barcelona next month, with a premium guests list inclusive of chef Ferran Adria, Harold McGee, “the American author whose writings on the science of food have inspired Heston Blumenthal” and other chefs.
