Only 70 bottles of Macallan’s New 40 year old whisky will be available in the US.

The Macallan distillery known for their exquisite single malt whiskeys has launched The Macallan 40 Years Old which is the latest in their Sherry Oak Range. Only 500 bottles have been produced and only 70 of those will be available in the USA. This is only the second non-vintage 40-year-old expression to be produced by the Macallan.
The Macallan 40 Years Old is aged in oak casks which are made from wood sourced from the forests of Northern Spain. After drying in the open air, the wood is shipped south where it is made into casks and toasted over an open fire in the cooperages of Jerez. The casks are then filled with dry Oloroso sherry and left to season for up to two years. Finally, they are emptied and shipped to the Macallan distillery in Speyside. All in all, the journey from tree to final cask is about 6 years long!

The Sherry Oak has notes of light peat, sweet ginger cake, treacle notes, ripe pineapple, citrus fruit sorbet, sultana, raisins, almonds, and wood smoke. It is bottled at 45% abv and retails at US$8,000.
