The current union of cake and art is fascinating. Bakers and artists seem to be walking the ramp rather proudly with creations that leave us wonder-struck. The latest from the ‘bakist’ world is Miss Rachel Teufel of Intricate Icing Cake Designs. She has created, over a tedious 16 hour length, a cake that will rock you. A three-tier cake with an amethyst geode in the centre – and totally edible. Geode is a round rock with a hollow cavity lined with crystals. The geode in the cake was made from a combination of granulated sugar and rock candy. Multi-coloured modelling chocolate helped set this geode in the fondant covered cake. And around this gold leaf and hand painting completed the creation. The outcome has gone viral and Rachel is thrilled to bits.
The cake was made for an event to launch a boutique planning company called First Look Events, owned by Brynn Swanson, as well as a new venue, Moss Denver.
