Edrington owned single malt Scotch – The Macallan, recently launched the Edition No.2 which is a fine amalgamation of whiskies matured in seven different cask types from four Sherry bodegas. The aim of the collection is to reflect onto the creative spirit of four collaborators -Bob Dalgarno and Joan (of Macallan fame) and Joseph and Jordi Roca (brothers and founders of El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, Spain)
The Macallan and Roca partnership presents seven varieties of the spirit, each of which are a result of handpicked ingredients and well thought processes. While master maker, Dalgarno picked European oak casks from Tevasa, Roca’s head chef Joan Roca chose American and European oak casks from Diego Martin. Further, the restaurant’s head honcho Josep Roca went with the European oak casks from Jose Miguel Martin and celebrated pastry chef Jordi Roca carefully selected American oak butts and puncheons from Vasyma.
The driving force behind the edition series is the freedom with which the selectors explored an array of exclusive and distinctive flavors, including some that are not by far relatable with other Macallan variants. Warm and woody undertones form the base of each of the chosen varieties, which are further bound by fresh hints of apple, oranges, toffee, dried fruit and vanilla. Bottled at 48.2% abv, you can get yourself the ultra-fine Edition 2 for £65 ($80 USD). Scotch lovers and whisky connoisseurs certainly have something to look out for at their next visit to the wine shop!
