Think single malt scotch and one of the first names to pop in mind is that of The Macallan. The marquee under its ever-expanding umbrella of fine whiskies, has recently launched the M Black 2017 – the fifth annual release of the M since 2013 and the Edition No. 4 from its wood-centric Edition series.
For the special launch of the new M Black, Edrington collaborated with creative director Fabien Baron and Lalique to create a unique crystal decanter, which was crafted to “reflect the diverse history” of The Macallan. The scotch at 45% abv boasts of a “rich natural” colour, alognwith sharp notes of dark fruit, chocolate and espresso and a filling aroma of rich cherry chocolate sweetness and fresh citrus. The classic whiskey is limited to only 725 decanters, each engraved with individual numbers, and priced at US$7,192 for 700ml each.
While the M Black takes much of center stage, the Edition No 4 doesn’t lag far behind. Latest from the Edition series, this one comes bottled at 48.4% abv, and is crafted from a combination of European and American oak casks. The Edition No.4 melts hearts with its zesty, vibrant and invigorating flavor and warm undertones of rounded honey, sweet toffee and citrus fruits. It is priced at US$109.00 and will be available worldwide, come July 2018.
