The latest collaboration between artist Robert Wilson and Illy will make you throw away all the coffee cups stowed away in your cupboard. Robert Wilson has elevated the modest ceramic cup to meld the sensory pleasures of coffee and art in the Illy Art Collection. The collection consists a series of signed, limited and numbered cups and companion saucers for espresso and cappuccino. Some special editions contain a single limited edition cup.
Inspiration for the latest collections comes from the Watermill Center, a laboratory for the arts and humanistic sciences founded by Robert Wilson in 1992. The Illy Art Collection has for 20 years elevated the simple pleasure of drinking everyday espresso. More than 70 contemporary artists have contributed designs for the while porcelain Illy cup, first introduced by Mattheo Thun in 1992.
The Illy Art Collectio, is on sale all over the world, in cafés, stores that distribute Illy products and at www.illy.com. A set of 6 espresso cups and saucers costs $150 and a set of six cappuccino and saucers is $195.
