Lalique and McLaren debut the first sculpture in their Essence of Speed Collection

Lalique is no stranger to high profile collaborations; the crystal manufacturer has worked with big names from Tom Ford and the Macallan to Zaha Hadid and Bentley. Now another brand joins the list as they launch their new collection with McLaren called the Essence of Speed collection. The collection will depict three stylized creatures in clear crystal, each interpreted in two sizes. Symbols of speed, these collector’s pieces in limited editions will be released over a three-year period. The first one is a stunning sprinting Cheetah.

The big cat is famed for its speed and hunting abilities as well as its sleek majesty, so it’s no surprise that the Cheetah was chosen as the first figure in this collection. This sculpture depicts it mid-sprint in satin finished crystal. A smaller standing edition is limited to 375 (the same number as the limited edition P1 supercar) pieces while a larger piece created using the lost-wax technique is limited to just 20 pieces. This larger model commemorates the 20 Formula One World Championships that McLaren has won so far.

The smaller sculpture can be lit up thanks to its LED base however the larger version is a more appealing sight thanks to its black crystal base. Both items are available in Lalique stores where prices are available upon request.
