It is not often that a new hotel comes along and causes quite such a stir as the upcoming Canopy by Hilton, but then this isn’t just any contemporary 5-star Hotel. Hilton Worldwide has announced a new boutique brand that will launch next year with a planned location in San Diego. Located in the heart of the White Flint, the property will be one of the eleven locations under development in a variety of markets including Miami, Nashville, London, Oklahoma City, Indianapolis, Savannah, Ga., Portland, Ore., Ithaca, N.Y., Charlotte and Washington, D.C.
The 177-room boutique hotel on Pike & Rose is being developed by Federal Realty and is slated to open in 2016. The nine-story hotel will include a main floor specifically designed to maximize opportunities for social gathering and vibrant interaction. In lieu of a standard lobby, the floor will showcase changing daytime and nighttime dining options, ranging from a morning café to an evening bar, to a lunchtime bistro to everything in between. The hotel’s ground floor space will appeal not only to guests at the hotel, but also to shoppers strolling the sidewalks of Pike & Rose.
Guests will be able to check into their rooms using mobile devices as a room key. They will also have access to free wireless Internet and evening tastings of local beers and wines.
The new hotel brand aims to redefine the lifestyle category around the mindset of today’s leisure and business travelers. “We saw an opportunity to not only enter the lifestyle space by developing a new brand, but also to redefine this category by creating a more accessible lifestyle brand,” Christopher J. Nassetta, president and CEO of Hilton Worldwide said in a press release. “We identified the need to take the emphasis off of capital-intensive design and deliver exactly what the target consumer desires: an energizing, comfortable stay with more included value.”
