Hotel Café Royal unveils The London Royal Tea, a classic take on the time-honored English tradition

The age-old custom of high-tea is indeed a splendid tradition in the United Kingdom. Hotel Café Royal, a proud member of The Leading Hotels of the World, unveiled The London Royal Tea on 14th of September. Fittingly set in the iconic Oscar Wilde Bar, the affair is an archetypal take on the time-honored English tradition. While the culinary team at the elegant hotel whips together a curated menu, discerning tea connoisseurs can discover the journey of tea and its numerous traditions. An elected toastmaster will commence and conclude the ceremonial with a bell, a significant sacrament by muffin men back in the 1800’s.

A wonderful blend of conventional and modern culinary art, the menu is inspiring. If you happen to visit the celebrated Oscar Wilde Bar, you will first indulge in customary Savory muffin with Goats cheese and tomato, before a selection of traditional tea sandwiches with a twist including: Cucumber, cream cheese and beetroot; Prawn brigade with spices and London honey; and Smoked Wilde salmon, quail’s egg and cress.

After which, you will be presented to try the hibiscus ice tea to clean your palate together with a vanilla biscuit before moving onto the sweet dishes on offer, including: Traditional Battenberg cake, Underground macaroon, Pearly King and Queen Opera and Victoria sponge plus Raspberry Regent, a sweet treat that has been specially created by the hotel for this service, inspired by the iconic Dome Penthouse. Of course, the service would be incomplete without Hotel Café Royal’s golden raisin and plain scones with clotted cream and Baylands strawberry preserve, served alongside a selection of cakes including Lemon drizzle; Hazelnut tin; and Traditional fruit cake.

A selection of custom-blended teas from the Canton Tea company will be on offer, including the Celestine (a harmonious blend of Bai Lin Gong Fu Black Tea, Yunnan Black Tea, Organic Vanilla Pod and Cornflower Petals); and the eponymous Oscar (a Lapsang Souchong black tea). The London Royal Tea will also showcase an eclectic menu of Champagnes and sparkling wines, not to mention the specially concocted cocktails using Veuve Clicquot Rich: Ziggy Stardust, a mix of Coconut noire tea, fresh coconut, gold dust with Rich Champagne or Whistler, featuring Lavender Earl Grey tea with Rich Champagne.

While the regular London Royal tea is priced at $64 per person, The Champagne London Royal Tea is offered at $84 per person. Available daily, The London Royal Tea offers the lavish spread from midday until 5 pm (last order).
