Go anywhere else in the world but Val Thorens in France with over 600 kilometers of interconnected runs remains the largest ski area and Europe’s highest ski destination. Also new this year is the opening of Club Med’s latest resort, the Val Thorens Sensations.
The Val Thorens Sensations offers a ski holiday where you can walk out your front door and straight onto the slopes. Much of the buzz surrounding the resort has been concerning the crowd-sourcing contest on social media, in which 50,000 fans voted for what they wanted from the ski resort From the color of the carpet to the hotel’s name, public has largely contributed to the hotel’s décor and design.
The Val Thorens Sensations is all about altitude. The property has direct access to the Three Valleys, the highest skiing domain in the world. It has 384 rooms from 248-square-feet and up, including 12 Deluxe Rooms, five Junior Suites and six Suites. The rooms have a magnificent view over the ski area, with vast windows to give maximum sunlight.
A 10-metre climbing wall in the foyer, outdoor Jacuzzi, an indoor yurt in the dining room have been integrated with the contemporary architectural design by Sophie Jacqmin to lend Val Thorens Sensations a powerful identity.
For those who are fair weather skiers only or for those who want to breathe the mountain air but not actually ski there, the resort features a variety of dining options and bars, including a restaurant with terrace ‘The Epicurious Gourmet Lounge” offering delicacies designed by Edouard Loubet, a 2-star Michelin Chef.
For unwinding after a day on the slopes, the resort offers wellness facilities such as multi-purpose treatment rooms, spa programs and Turkish baths. The property also has its own nightclub.
Ski season will run through May at the resort.
