359 guestrooms and suites, stunning riverside views, two exciting new bars, an expansive restaurant, a maritime inspired 56-seat cinema and much more. Introducing to you, the Mondrian hotel that ventured out of the United States for the very first time and opened its doors just last week on London’s eclectic South Bank.
Mondrian London at Sea Containers is an amalgamation of the nautical charm of the original building including the giant, copper clad wall inspired by the hull of a ship, running from outside the building and through the entrance. As well as the modern twists and sophisticated design typical to the Mondrian brand. Stately and state-of-the-art at once, the sprawling property has been designed by Design Research Studio under the creative direction of visionary Tom Dixon. And we really mean visionary since the 1920s cruise ship glamour of the hotel has made its way into each of the rooms decked in bespoke furniture from Tom Dixon and one-off pieces of art, and inspired by ocean liner cabins.
Meanwhile, the mini bars in each room also offer bespoke pre-packaged Dandelyan cocktails, mixed by Ryan Chetiyawardana, A.K.A Mr. Lyan. And from pre-packaged cocktails to just-mixed ones, Mr. Lyan is also helming a seasonal cocktail bar, Dandelyan, with dramatic views of the Thames. Suffice to say Mondrian London is already making a mark as the new ‘it’ hotel but with the opening of a rooftop bar, scheduled for mid-October, with its outdoor terrace and glass-box structure, the hotel is also set to up the nightlife scene at Southbank. For the gourmands, there’s Sea Containers, the restaurant.
New York’s Seamus Mullen and Sea Containers’ Executive Chef Luke Rayment, are giving Londoners a fresh dose of “seasonally considered cuisine that is sustainable, carefully sourced and perfectly prepared” at the riverside restaurant, where outdoor seating along the river walk is also available. But even that’s not quite it. The property boasts a 56-seat cinema, which is available to book for events during the week and plays host to guests and public on weekends, showing the latest leading arthouse cinematic hits.
And we hear the new Lazarides Editions gallery is also housed on the ground floor of Mondrian London, providing a smorgasbord of exclusive artist book launches, bespoke exhibitions, and independent screenings in addition to a revolving curation of notable print editions and possible in-store collaborations. The hotel also features six flexible meeting and event spaces with state-of-the-art audio, video and telecommunications equipment.
We don’t know about them, but we sure were saving the best for the last- agua Bathhouse & Spa at Mondrian London. A bold new spa playground concept, it consists six spacious treatment suites and Spa & Glamour Lounges, besides an exclusive, curated menu of signature treatments. Room rates start from £195 ($300) a night at one of United States’ most glamorous imports to London.
