Suite of the Week: the rustic Book Collector Suite at the Pulitzer Amsterdam

If you’re an avid reader of, you’d swiftly conclude that hotels in Amsterdam have often been featured in our Suites of the Week. It’s artistic heritage, vicinities like the Museum District and the renowned canal system add so much character to the city.

Our selection for this week is the grand Pulitzer Amsterdam, a member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts Legend Collection. After a massive $33 million restoration, the hotel opened its doors to the public in August 2016. Always a popular choice for the affluent few, the Pulitzer’s redecoration was led by Creative Director Jacu Strauss.

For our literary learners, and more so the luxury seekers, we’ve narrowed it down to The Book Collector Suite. Inspired by the stunning book collections found in Amsterdam houses, this suite is ideal for an eccentric book lover.

The suite gives a private entrance to the Keizersgracht, stirring the Dutch local within you. Envision a colossal marble hallway with heaps of books and delicate ornaments adorning the ceiling.

Bathed in a deep and dark colour palette, the suite boasts a herringbone wooden oak floor. Of course, the showstopper is the floor-to-ceiling book arche display in the bedroom with old and new books from bookstores in the Nine Streets.

A rustic bed with wooden headboard can be found in the bedroom. The canals can be viewed from the living room; which is also home to an oak writer’s desk with an old typewriter on top and a vintage leather armchair.

On the floor an eye-catching patchwork Persian rug by Piet Hein Eek using vintage Persian rug sections with borders made from disused military tents.

Guests staying in the suite can relish a liquor bottle of preference (such as gin, whiskey or vodka) or a champagne bottle. Guests are contacted prior to their stay to share their favourite which is then supplied on the day of arrival.
