Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa is undoubtedly one of my preferred resorts on the tropical island. Occupying an enviable position on a former coconut plantation, the sprawling property has the Shangri-La brand’s hospitable touch to it. The luxury resort ticks off most elements off my bucket list; an Ayurvedic spa, a plethora of restaurants and a roster of activities. The immaculate detailing of its interiors caught my attention almost immediately; from coir rugs to giant planters in angular shapes and intricate teak latticework. The effortless flow from outdoor spaces to indoor areas works seamlessly.
The 275 rooms and suites have been scattered across 6 categories. My favourite though is the Janapathi Suite. Offering the most discerning views of the sparkling Indian Ocean, the stylishly designed suite has oodles of Sri Lankan sophistication coupled with modern amenities. The interiors of the suite are dotted with artsy pieces and elegant pieces of furniture.
As you walk into the spacious bathroom, absorb the grandeur of the Emperador marble, a large tub and a glass-enclosed shower. Step out into the colossal master bedroom, which features an enormous four poster bed and a waterproof TV. If that is not sufficient to fulfil your vacation dreams, relax in your en-suite massage room which also comes with an outdoor Jacuzzi.
