I personally feel postcards do not do justice to the Maldives. The idea of waking up to turquoise waters and white-washed beaches is simply a dream; and then, there’s an abundance of luxury resorts that enhance your experience further. One such boutique resort is the Gili Lankanfushi where 45 stilted villas float on the blissful blue waters surrounding the tiny island. In my personal opinion, the design aesthetic of the resort is its USP; a traditional and sustainable blend of the architectural style set it apart from its competitors.
Unlike most resorts, Gili Lankanfushi’s villas branch out of all four corners of the island. Granted, each villa offers the most bespoke experience, yet our personal favourite is the Private Reserve. Isolated from the rest of the clan, the Private Reserve’s most appreciated factor is its seclusion and privacy. Staying at this villa also earns you the tag of staying at the largest overwater villa in the world. Think an infinity swimming pool, sprawling sundecks, a private sauna and steam room, air-conditioned gymnasium, a cinema, bar, and private water slide; and these are just the extracurricular activities in your villa. Of course, when your villa occupies an enviable spot 500 meters away from the main island, it’s only fair that a private boat is at your beck and call.
The 17,000 sq ft villa entails one master bedroom, one duplex master suite with two bedrooms and one guest room. Step outside your oasis of privacy and walk into a large living area with a sea garden and a natural coral pool. Your butler by the name of Mr. Friday Service is at your service. When the concept of riding on your private motorised boat for lunch seems too boring, whip up a meal in your fully-equipped gourmet kitchen. Residents will be invited to design their own wine cellar selection from our list of 400 labels.
