It is hard to associate a brand as delicate as Cartier with something as prickly as cacti. But that is the latest talk in trendy town with the latest collection by the French luxury goods brand. ‘Cactus de Cartier’ consists of jewelry is ‘bold’ in its appearance, yet remaining delicate in texture. The brand highlights today’s woman – strong and independent, beautiful yet untouchable – characteristics of the succulent. It comprises necklaces, bracelets, cuffs, earrings, and rings. Prices range from $15,000 for a ring to $342,000 for its star attraction – a necklace made from yellow gold topped with emerald and diamond flowers. One cocktail ring design comes crowned with the striking lapis lazuli beads while another while a chunky bracelet comes with emerald, chrysoprase, and carnelian beads.
The desert-themed collection was launched in a unique setting. A vast open space off Avenue Franklin Roosevelt next to the River Seine in Paris displayed each piece of jewelry in mirrored viewing booths. The items were placed delicately on desert landscapes made from orange sand piles. Guests relished on these pieces by savoring on green foie-gras balls dipped in nuts and other hors d’oeuvres which the waiters circulated. Dinner by “twice Michelin-starred Lisbon chef José Avillez”, was later served.
