The collaboration between Tiffany & Co. and American artist Daniel Arsham has me conflicted. For the first time in my life, I am unable to decide whether I like the jewelry more or the box that contains it. Of course, the Tiffany Blue Box holds a special place in every girl’s heart, but the Bronze Eroded Penny Vessel and the limited-edition Tiffany & Arsham Studio HardWear necklace have raised the bar.
Adding a new dimension to the fandom for Tiffany Blue is none other than ace sculptor Daniel Arsham, who taps into his fascination with archaeology to deliver an unexpected iteration of a Tiffany icon. The blue hue that is synonymous with both parties brings to life the iconic HardWear necklace, which traces its origins to a bold 1962 bracelet design in Tiffany’s archives. This raw-edged chain symbolizes the resilience and evolving spirit of New York City.
The necklace, crafted in 18-karat white gold, is set with more than 1,000 diamonds (6 carats) and over 500 tsavorites (3 carats). The timeless classic is encased in 39 limited-edition handcrafted sculptures meticulously finished at Arsham Studio in New York City.
Talking about the Bronze Eroded Penny Vessel, I was inspired by Tiffany’s 1885 redesign of the Great Seal of the United States of America and Arsham’s Study of the Eroded Penny (2013). The piece is cast in the signature color and rich patina of bronze, accented with polished crystal. Completing the terrific trio is the packaging; each Bronze Eroded Penny Vessel is presented in a custom Tiffany Blue art-handling crate with metal hardware, while a distinctive Tiffany Blue Box contains dual-branded white gloves for careful handling.
