The Hello Kitty jewelry collection has gone up a whole new level of bling! While its collaboration with Kimora Lee Simmons was cute, its latest collaboration with Japanese pearl giant Mikimoto will see the launch of an exclusive ‘Mikimoto x Hello Kitty jewelry collection’ consisting of 20 pieces of necklaces, earrings and bracelets – all made with silver, gold, diamonds, rubies and, of course, with pearls.
An elegant 12-strand Akoya pearl necklace depicting Kitty’s face in diamonds with a pair of earrings is priced at 29.085 million yen ($2.8 million), Hair jewelry at 997,500 yen ($9,745) and a made-to-order tiara with strawberry motifs of rubies and flowers, designed with mother of pearls will be priced around 100 million yen ($0.97 million), though its launch piece will not be for sale. The two strawberries decorating the sides of the tiara can be opened to reveal Hello Kitty and her boyfriend Daniel hidden inside. Twinkling in the center of the 3D piece is the iconic cat – with an oval-cut diamond for her face, claws for the whiskers and a pair of trilliant-cut diamonds for ears. A silver and pearl bangle (55,000 yen or $537) and ring (260,000 yen or $2,539) will also be available.
The collection was launched to the Sanrio character’s 40th birthday at the Mikimoto’s store in Ginza, Tokyo, and the Parisian boutique Colette, last month. The collection is currently being rolled out in stores around the world. With millions of fans all over the world, these exquisite pieces are sure to become a collector’s item for Hello Kitty lovers all over the world.
