The New York Giants have selected a design for their Super Bowl XLII championship ring, and it’s certainly noticeable. Designed by Tiffany & Co., the ring is a white gold sparkler that will feature about 1.5 carats in diamonds. Michael Strahan wanted a “10 table ring”– as in people would be able to see it 10 tables away (talk about wanting to be loud!). Player Shaun O’Hara, who sat on the design team along with Strahan, Eli Manning, Amani Toomer, Coach Tom Coughlin, and Giants management, told reporters, “There was some discussion about maybe one of the rings was too big. I threw out the fact that it was a big win, it was a huge win, so the ring should be designed accordingly.” The top of the ring features three Super Bowl trophies accented with marquise diamonds signifying the Giants’ Super Bowl XXI, XXV, and XLII victories. Besides the design which is an on top of the ring, there are also messages on each side noting accomplishments from the season
So while one side of the ring will have the name and number of the player, an NFL crest, and the words “Eleven straight on the road.”, the other flank will feature the Super Bowl logo, date, and final score: “NYG 17, NE 14.” When asked, Giants spokesman Pat Hanlon would not disclose the price of the ring. Tiffany & Co. who made these rings has previously created Super Bowl championship rings for the Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. These bling beauties will be presented to the Giants players and coaches at a ceremony later in the spring.
