A notable week amongst bars across the globe is coming up and Aspri Spirits, a leading importer and distribution company responsible for the presence of big wine, beer and cider brands in India, is bringing the Negroni Week to the country for its debut. Negroni Week started out in 2013 as a way to bring together two starkly different worlds – the celebration of the famous Negroni cocktail along with the notable causes of charities around. This festival of sorts saw a creative way to raise money for the charitable causes in the areas around the event; and since inception, participating bars have increased from 100 at the start to more than 1,300 in 2014 and have managed to raise more than $120,000 for the various causes supported by local organizations. This year’s anticipatory participants list is 2,500 and counting! The minimum donation towards the different causes is a dollar for every Negroni.
What’s in this cocktail, you may ask? Negroni’s creation dates back to the early 20th century at a café in Florence, Italy where a man with the same name came up with the blood orange colored concoction. Negroni is a delightful mixture made with one part gin, one part Cinzano Vermouth Rosso (red, semi-sweet), and one part Campari, garnished with orange peel. The Campari is an alcoholic spirit obtained from the infusion of bitter herbs, aromatic plants and fruit in alcohol and water and is what give the cocktail its vibrant red! Negroni is mostly served as an aperitif and has made its mark as one of the classics on bar menus worldwide.
The Negroni Week is set for 1st June – 7th June, 2015 and Mumbai will see the special cocktail pop-up at these 14 participating bars across the city, courtesy Aspri Spirits.
