2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS launched in India at Rs 99.90 lakh

Mercedes-Benz has launched the all-new GLS flagship luxury SUV in India with the prices starting at Rs 99.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The third-generation model made its international debut in April, last year and it will be sold in India in two variants – the 400d diesel and 450 petrol. The later is powered by the automaker’s new 3-litre six-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 367 horsepower and 500Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an integrated starter-generator that offers an EQ Boost function which provides an additional 22hp and 250Nm of torque. The 400d gets Merc’s latest 3.0-liter inline-six diesel engine that produces 330hp and 700Nm of torque. Both the variants come with a 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox with the German automaker’s latest 4Matic four-wheel-drive system.

In terms of design, the new Mercedes-Benz GLS is based on the manufacturer’s Modular High Architecture (MHA) platform. It is lager than the outgoing model in every dimension, including the wheelbase which has increased by 60mm. Aesthetically, the new GLS arrives with a fresh LED headlight and taillight designs, a redesigned octagonal grille on the front, and chrome-finished twin exhaust mufflers. Inside the cabin, the new GLS gets twin 12.3-inch screens for the infotainment system and instrument cluster, Mercedes’ latest MBUX multimedia system with voice command and gesture control, a panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, five-zone automatic climate control, wireless charging at the front and rear, and rear-seat entertainment screens.
