Every girl dreams about looking like a princess on her wedding day. However, in midst of designers like Sabyasaachi and Manish Malhotra, we’ve never imagined that Indian Brides can look pretty in a Disney princes avatar too. A South Asian couture shop in Surrey, B.C. has combined the traditional with the whimsical in a new photo series that imagines Disney princesses as Indian brides. Giving some real time competition to bridal wear in India, these dresses are actually wearable, maybe in a princess theme wedding.
The company designed a theme that used each Disney princess movie as the inspiration before integrating traditional Indian bridal wear. The photo shoot describes how Disney could translate into the traditional Indian aesthetic because of the differences between mainstream wedding styles and Indian weddings. Indian weddings are extremely extravagant and ornate and outfits are extremely bedazzled, whereas mainstream weddings are more simple, sleek, and polished. So, while Belle and Jasmine wore floor length anarkalis, Snow White and Rapunzel opted for Lehengas in their signature colors.
Their vision led them to recreate Snow White, Jasmine, Sleeping Beauty, Mulan, Belle, Rupanzel, Ariel and Pochahontas into dazzling brides in traditional Indian bridal wear. However, would you dress up like a Disney Princess on your wedding day?
